We’ve been organizing youth programming since 2010 for young people to discover Untold or little known history, better understand the importance of conservation, grow in their resilience to challenges and build the confidence to face those challenges head-on.
ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY:
Every summer the youth in our Spoke'n Revolutions program cycle a tour of close to 700-miles over 2 weeks and study history and environmental education along the route. This year, due to Covid-19, the 2020 tour went virtual. So all of us, young and adult, attended four 1-hour lunch sessions and learned some of the Untold History we didn't learn in school. People came to one session or came to them all! We're providing them to review at your leisure.

ANDRE TAYLOR
Public Historian, Researcher
Andre Taylor is the oral historian at the College of William & Mary. The veteran award-winning journalist studied the impacts of climate change and sea level rise on the cultural heritage of the Gullah Geechee people.

Victoria Smalls takes us back to childhood life, then and now, on the sea islands of her South Carolina coastal home.
VICTORIA SMALLS
Public Historian, Artist, Cultural Preservationist
A proud Gullah Geechee native of St. Helena Island, SC, Victoria serves in various capacities, as a public historian and educator, artist and arts advocate, and cultural preservationist. She's steeped in Reconstruction and Civil Rights Era history and Gullah Geechee culture, in which she was raised and nurtured.

Librarian, Author, Public Historian
Michelle Johnson, author of Sapelo Island’s Hog Hammock, a collection of images from the Georgia Gullah-Geechee community. Michele is a librarian at the College of Coastal Georgia.

JAMES BULLOCK
Independent Historian
James Bullock, A.S.C.A.P writer and publisher, playwright, and tour guide. Bullock is the recipient of the 2006 Interpretive Guide Award from the Castillo de San Marcos, U.S. Park Service.
James is also the author of the play Freedom Road, a speaker for the U.S. Army Reserve and Florida National Guard, and has led tours and presentations at Fort Mose for various Florida schools and St. Louis Urban League. Bullock is also a re-enactor in the Flight to Freedom Program, National Park Service.
