From June 24th until July 8th, 2017 we at Spoke’n Revolutions will take on a life transforming tour through history and self-determination when we travel the route of another historic trail in America.
The Trail of Tears was a series of forced relocations of our own North Carolina Cherokee and other Native American nations in the United States following the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
WHY TOURS BASED ON HISTORY?
Each SnR summer tour is built around a historic moment in America. As cyclists, we revisit historic events and spaces to make comparisons between then and now. Then ask how that affects me. Through the journey I’ll obtain a deeper understanding of myself. It’s only natural to imagine what I’d do if I were a person of history, whether that history is uplifting or heart-wrenching. Either way, knowing myself brings me closer to knowing what is and IS NOT acceptable to me. As well as, seeking to change that which I can and accept that which I can’t.
This tour “is project-based learning at its best, combining travel to powerful places with authentic experience of history and geography, collaboration towards a common goal, and intense physical activity.”1
